Academic scholarships are awarded at age 11 (Year 7 entry) to girls showing outstanding academic potential as judged by performance in the entrance assessment; all external applicants taking the entrance examination are automatically considered for one of these awards. There is no separate scholarship application form or scholarship test. The value of these scholarships may vary but they are usually in the region of 10% of fees and are more about the honour of the award than the amount. However, a scholarship can be supplemented by a means tested bursary (see above). More information on Year 7 Scholarships here.

Academic scholarships are also awarded to our own Year 6 girls joining us from the Junior School. Our own Year 6 girls are not required to sit the entrance exam and scholarship offers are made on the basis of advice from the Junior School head, drawing on evidence from the girls’ time in the Junior School. Girls wishing to be considered for music and sports scholarships will continue to have the associated assessments.

Girls applying for Year 7 can apply for a music scholarship, usually worth 10% of the tuition fees. Girls should generally be playing at Grade 5 standard or above on their main instrument to be considered for this award, although they do not need to have taken grade exams.
We are however mindful of the disruption that may have occurred to your daughter’s musical progress this year and we are happy to discuss individual circumstances. Equally, if your daughter plays a more unusual instrument, but has not yet attained Grade 5 standard, please do get in touch with our Admissions team for advice. Girls applying for Year 7 can also apply for a sport scholarship, usually worth 10% of the tuition fees. Girls can apply with one sport or for an all-rounder award. Our sport assessment afternoon will be held in December or January. If you are interested in applying for a sport scholarship please tick the relevant box on the Registration Form.

A small number of Sport Scholarships may be awarded each year. Girls must satisfy the normal academic requirements for entry to be awarded a Sport Scholarship. Completed application forms should be submitted to the Admissions Office by our deadline which will be confirmed in due course, along with a report from the candidate’s Director of Sport/sports teacher at their current school, or their sports coach
outside school. This should give clear details of the candidate’s sporting ability and experience.

Candidates can apply for Sport Scholarships in the following sports: Athletics, Cross Country, Cricket, Hockey, Netball, Swimming, Tennis and Water Polo. Girls can also apply for an All-Rounder Sports Scholarship if they are offering two or more sports listed from above. If your daughter participates at a high level in a sport not listed above, she may also apply for the All-Rounder Sports Scholarship, but may be required to participate in other sports in addition to this, once at the school.

Candidates are required to be playing at a minimum of club level in their respective sport to be considered. Preference will be given to those who have shown the potential to make the County or equivalent system in the future and this should be indicated in your daughter’s reference. For individual sports, such as swimming and athletics, applicants should reference their current personal bests, with clear indication of the event at which these were achieved. For athletics, it is beneficial for the pupil to have their results on the ‘Power of 10’, which should be referenced.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an assessment afternoon in January 2022. This will include activities where basic skills will be assessed, such as racket skills and ball skills; team building exercises; and a friendly and informal interview.
