We exist to enable every girl to achieve beyond the bound of expectation on a daily basis, across the spectrum of endeavour.
Inspiring, enlightened and intellectually rigorous — this is the education offered by Streatham & Clapham High School.
From our Nursery to our Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form, our girls prosper in a vibrant setting that provides challenge and width of opportunity. They thrive on account of the school’s family ethos, which allows them to be known, valued and nurtured as individuals. Equally, they draw strength and derive wisdom from the school’s rich social and cultural mix.
Put simply, ours is an exceptional learning community and one of the top private schools in London.
Our girls enjoy a broadly intellectual and well-rounded education. We create a vibrant, stimulating curriculum, tailored to fit the needs of the individual, ensuring girls succeed in a myriad of different subjects. A diverse spectrum of enrichment activities provide unlimited opportunity to develop new skills and confidence.
We believe that all members of the school should be inspired to outperform expectations on a daily basis. The pursuit of excellence is thus a defining feature of our Senior School. This is reflected in our examination results, which place us in the top tier of independent schools nationally.
We nurture our girls to attain success across the widest spectrum of activity, extending far beyond the conventional ‘academic' horizon. In so doing, they learn the beauty of reason, the allure of the aesthetic, and the vitality of the physical throughout their secondary education.
Our girls, whether they are very able or late developers, learn to navigate the landscape of the human spirit and achieve beyond the realms of expectation.
Girls are encouraged to try new subjects, taking a broad-minded view of learning, and as our girls advance, they enjoy progressively more independence throughout their secondary education at our Senior School. We support them in feeling confident in their own choices and teach them the skills they need for a constantly changing world.
Throughout their education, SCHS girls benefit from subject-specialist teachers and the experts who teach them fundamental study skills whilst capturing their imaginations.
We build a curriculum to fit the needs of each girl rather than trying to fit the girls to a curriculum. Our broad choice enables our girls to nurture and develop their natural talents, but also explore subjects they may have never considered before. Our specialist teachers ensure whatever choices they make as they progress through the school, they are individually supported to help them succeed.
The pursuit of excellence across all fields of endeavour is the defining feature of Streatham & Clapham High School. Whether they lean to the sports or excel in the sciences, whether they are budding musicians or keen linguists, our girls' intellectual curiosity is stimulated by a liberal and challenging academic curriculum, enabling them to discover and develop individual talents and interests, and ensuring that all attain success across the widest spectrum of activity.
The timetable is organised into 60 teaching periods over a two-week cycle. Each period is of 50 or 55 minutes' duration. During the last period each Wednesday all pupils participate in ‘Kinza', the school's unique enrichment programme, which complements their academic studies.
What do we mean by co-curricular activities?
We believe that the attainment of academic excellence is by itself of little value unless it is accompanied by strong personal growth.
Streatham & Clapham High School is dedicated to developing the whole girl, not just her intellect. Our girls develop as spirited, well-rounded citizens who embrace the opportunities life offers. Our co-curricular programme provides a vast range of different options to support the individual interests of every girl.
Off-site visits inspire our girls to achieve excellence by expanding their horizons and preparing them for their role as global citizens. Whether they attain outstanding results in national competitions, win prizes for creating robots or trek across the volcanic landscape of Iceland, our girls confidently embrace the wealth of opportunities available to them and succeed in their endeavours.
All girls participate in sport, whether at a competitive level or for fitness, teamwork and enjoyment.
Schools Sport Magazine ranked us within the top 100 independent sports schools in the UK (which places SCHS in the top 10% of all British schools). Our national sporting success continues to grow with such achievements as our U13 gymnastics team's winning the English Schools National Championship (June 2019), our U15 hockey team's winning Surrey County Championship (November 2019), U12 hockey team's winning the London Youth Games Championship (July 2019) and U19 netball team's winning Surrey County Championship (March 2020).
Major competitive sports include: Athletics, Cricket, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball and Rowing.
